Green smoothies: What’s all the fuss about?


I’ve been hearing a lot about green smoothies lately on the vegan websites so thought it was about time to try one for myself. A green smoothie is often recommended as a great start to the day as it contains several pieces of fruit along with a leafy green (for the iron content). Here’s what I put in mine:

1 small banana
1 orange
1 passionfruit
handful of frozen blueberries
2 handfuls of  baby spinach leaves (washed)
1/2 cup of cold water

Peel and/or chop the above, then blend  till all ingredients are a well combined, smooth consistency and look like this:


The verdict: Refreshing, tangy and the spinach was not in the least bit dominant. The combination of ingredients are limitless too – you could even add a scoop of protein powder to turn this into a pre or post workout shake.
